Safety quizzes are a fixture of induction, safety week and National Safety Day in Indian workplaces. This free quiz checks the rights and duties every employee should know under the new Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, with the section behind every answer.
The law that applies now
The Government of India made the four Labour Codes effective from 21 November 2025. One of them, the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 (the OSH Code), replaces 13 central labour laws, including the Factories Act, 1948, the Mines Act, 1952, the Dock Workers Act, 1986 and the Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996. During the transition, the rules and notifications made under those Acts stay in force where they are not contrary to the Code, until they are replaced; the Central and State Governments make the new rules.
The Code's general duties are short. The employer must keep the workplace free from hazards likely to cause injury or occupational disease, provide a safe working environment so far as reasonably practicable, give information, instruction, training and supervision, issue an appointment letter, and never charge employees for safety and health measures. Employees must take reasonable care of themselves and others, follow the safety standards, co-operate with the employer and report unsafe situations.

Using the quiz
Play it live at the end of an induction, during National Safety Week, or as a team competition: everyone answers from their phone, and the explanation appears after each question. These are practice questions written by Quizhat from the text of the Code and Government of India releases; they are not an official test, and Quizhat is not affiliated with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, DGFASLI or any State labour department.
